Yamaha Racers to share passion for dirt bike riding with children from Big Brothers Big Sisters

KAMLOOPS, BC (May 27, 2015)Yamaha Motor and Schultz Motorsports are teaming up to provide a fun and exciting weekend of dirt bike riding for 6 lucky children at Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Kamloops resident, Rob Crawford, has always wanted to share his passion for off-road riding with children who may not otherwise get the chance to ride a bike. “Racing has created lots of friendships and memories for me, and I wanted to share that joy of motocross with children who may face barriers to participating in the sport. Off-road biking is similar in cost to organized hockey, and we want to expand the kids’ horizons about what is possible and spark new dreams.”

The children are “Littles” who are involved in local mentoring programs and typically dealing with different kinds of adversity in their lives. They are also kids who have little or no experience with motocross, but a strong desire to try the sport.

“We have a Sport Mentorship Program that aims to empower kids through sport, positive relationships and active skill building.” says Ian Gerbrandt, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters. “The kids are stoked for this opportunity and it will be neat to see them independently ride a bike by the end of the day.”

Rob will meet the kids and parents at Schultz Motorsports on Thursday evening to get fitted with gear. The real fun starts Friday afternoon, when the children will meet members of Yamaha’s racing team at Whispering Pines Raceway for professional instruction and a full afternoon of riding. To top the weekend, the children and their family members, will attend the professional races on Sunday where they will get VIP tours of the track and Yamaha equipment. The race on Sunday, May 31 is the first race of the season in the CMRC Motocross Pro National Series.

The special event for kids is possible thanks to the volunteer efforts of Yamaha Motor, Schultz Motorsports, Canadian Motosport Racing Corp, Fox Clothing, Rob Crawford and Brent Carlson. This is a new project and the group hopes to make this an annual event and reach deserving children in other cities.
